Mathieu Berger is a researcher and professor of sociology at UCLouvain, in Belgium. He teaches urban sociology, theories of power and discourse analysis. His researches deal on the one hand with theories of democratic public space and political participation, and on the other, with social aspects of land use planning and urban policies in Europe and in the US. He has been visiting researcher at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2008-2009 and at The New School For Social Research, in NYC, in 2012-2013. Since 2015, Mathieu has been leading Metrolab Brussels, a transdisciplinary laboratory for applied and critical urban research formed by UCL and ULB and funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020.
